Bruxer/Clencher & General Patient / User Information
The Aqualizer is not recommended for heavy bruxers, unless they use it as a biofeedback device combined with auto-suggestion to break their parafunctional oral habit of teeth clenching / grinding. The Aqualizer's use-life is between a few days to a few weeks, depending on the users clenching and bruxing habits. When the AqualizerTM is to be worn long-term, protect the oral tissues by not wearing it for more than eight hours in any 24-hour period. Wear the AqualizerTM for as few hours as necessary to relieve discomfort, either while sleeping or during daytime periods of stress or pain. If you have suffered from TMJ for years you should use the Aqualizer for possible relief and as an aide to diagnosis. It is a temporary and to the extent that it helps permanent dental treatment is indicated. The catch is that the dentist needs to use the Aqualizer to guide treatment, or there is no guarantee of the treatment matching the Aqualizer's effectiveness. If you destroy an Aqualizer within hours or 1 or 2 nights you are a parafunctional bruxer / clencher that the Aqualizer is not tough enough for. Seek professional dental help. The Aqualizer is used for nocturnal bruxism, but differently than all other splints. The Aqualizer is a waterbed for the jaw, not a discluder or something to chew on. The built in balancing and equilibration remove the occlusal prematurities and imbalances that when combined with stress can trigger bruxism, creating a third separate entity, the habit of bruxing. Bio feedback, Auto-suggestion Anti bruxing instructions: When you first insert the Aqualizer close with mild biting force, while mentally noting the different feel and position of your jaw. Give yourself the auto suggestion: "whenever I feel myself clenching like this, even when I'm sleeping STOP IT. Just relax while swallowing into the support of the water beds, and forget about the Aqualizer. DO NOT CLENCH AND BRUX ON THE SPLINT, TRAIN YOUR SELF TO RELAX INTO THE SUPPORT OF THE WATERBEDS. While wearing the AqualizerTM, just relax and rest your teeth against it. It is not necessary to clench. After proper insertion, your muscles will automatically move your jaw into its most comfortable position.
